What I Would Say to Myself 5 Years Ago and 5 Years from Now

So, you want to become successful, but you have no idea how? There will be no shortcuts, no easy solutions. There is only one way to become successful, and that is to work at it. That is why I write this blog. I want you to know my struggles so that you can know the endless road ahead.

But today I want to give you a question: What would you like to say to the person you were five years ago?

I’m a big fan of the “five-year rule.” It’s a way to look back and think about what you’ve learned, accomplished, and discovered in the course of the past five years. My “five-year rule” isn’t just restricted to the past few years but extends back to my teenage years. For some reason, it’s amazing how much I’ve changed since then. Let’s take a look.

Years from now, you’ll be looking back on these words as the moment of clarity that set you on the path to success. You can’t afford to overthink this, so here are some easy steps to help you hit the ground running. Since my epiphany in the doctor’s office, my life has come to a complete standstill in the past five years. And now, well, I’m just waiting for the next moment in my life to start again. How do I keep my eyes on the future and not the past? I don’t know. What I do know is that the past is where the real lessons are learned. And since I’ve learned a lot in the past five years, I feel like I should share them with you. Hopefully, I learned something from you, too.

Self-writing is a phenomenon absolutely unique to the digital age. In the real world, writing something for your own benefit is pretty rare. The only other way to get a message to yourself is to record a video message, which has always been popular with celebrities (usually for their own vanity play). But video messages are expensive and difficult to produce. It is much easier and more cost-effective to write a message simply. Self-writing could be an effective way to communicate with yourself. Still, it can also be an efficient way to get rid of excess thoughts and ideas, a way to end procrastination, a way to get past emotional blocks, or a way to improve your memory.

Message Yourself! One of the most common questions I am asked is, “How do I stop myself from messaging myself?”. The question is usually followed by a long list of things that I have written to myself in the middle of the night. Five years from now, will you look back and wonder how you ever survived the year without your smartphone? Our phones are so close to us that most of the time, we don’t even notice we’re using them, especially when we’re out in public. We spend hours each day online and constantly check our social media accounts. We’re so glued to our devices that we are completely oblivious to the world around us.

Five years ago, I started to send these messages to myself, and it’s been a life-altering experience. I have been able to say “no” when I needed to and have been able to make time for the things I enjoy, instead of the things I have to. But I want to share more. Myself 5 years from now is very different from who I am today. Just because I am no longer a young person does not mean I am not going to be the same person. I am still going to have the same positive attitude, the same goal of doing things I enjoy, and the same disdain for the things I don’t like. I am also going to recognize the things I have to do and the things I don’t need to do.

How did I get to this point in my life? I would say it is a combination of things, but I think one big part of it is how I look at life. I think about the things I want to accomplish in my life and how I will do them. I try to make my goals realistic yet inspiring. I want to make sure that I am inspired by the things I want to accomplish.
